Type Locality
Ethiopia, northern shore Lake Turkana, Rusia (see Yalden et al., 1996).

Description
The common name comes from the often obese and slow-moving nature of these rodents.
Distribution
Distributed from Tanzania to Angola and south to Northern Namibia and Botswana, Steatomys parvus is found locally in the savanna, woodlands and semi-arid environments and absent over large intervening areas. (Kingdon, 1984, 1997)
